The situation at the London Institute has never been more precarious. With Mortmain and his clockwork army still threatening, the Council wants to strip Charlotte of her power and hand the running of the Enclave over to the unscrupulous and power-hungry Benedict Lightwood.

In the hope of saving Charlotte and the Institute, Will, Jem, and Tessa set out to unravel the secrets of Mortmain’s past—and discover unsettling Shadowhunter connections that hold the key not only to the enemy’s motivations, but also to the secret of Tessa’s identity. Tessa, already caught between the affections of Will and Jem, finds herself with another choice to make when she learns how the Shadowhunters helped make her a “monster.” Will she turn from them to her brother, Nate, who has been begging her to join him at Mortmain’s side? Where will her loyalties—and love—lie? Tessa alone can choose to save the Shadowhunters of London…or end them forever.

Not even going to lie, I’m more than a little jealous of the lucky people who snagged ARCs of this one. Clockwork Angel was such a great surprise last year and I think The Infernal Devices is Cassandra Clare’s best work (yes, Infernal Devices >>>>>>>> The Mortal Instruments for me). There were many books to keep me busy for a while but, as we inch closer to December, I’m beginning to grow impatient. NEED IT NOW.

What are you looking forward to this week?

Good stuff this week!

A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness (purchased) – Though I still need to read the other two books in the trilogy, I love The Knife of Never Letting Go by Patrick Ness so I was curious to check out this new book by him. The incoming reviews have been all positive. It’s such a gorgeous book!
Lola and the Boy Next Door by Stephanie Perkins (purchased) – Already reviewed this here. This is a second copy that has since been passed on to my BFF.
The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer by Michelle Hodkin (purchased) – LOVELOVELOVE. What a great and crazy read. My review will be up this week!
Psych Major Syndrome by Alicia Thompson (purchased) – I’ve wanted this for a while and finally got my hands on a copy. It sounds adorable and it’s set in college. Yay for older characters!
Clockwork Angel by Cassandra Clare (purchased) – My second copy of this. Sigh. I lent my original to someone and I doubt I’ll get it back. With Clockwork Prince coming up soon, I wanted a re-read so I just went ahead and bought it again.

Cover Reveal: Clockwork Prince

This morning at BEA, and then over at Mundie Moms, the cover for Cassandra Clare’s Clockwork Prince was revealed. If you’ve been around the blog for a while you’ve probably heard me mention this book, oh, I don’t know, a couple dozen times — it’s definitely one of the most anticipated titles for me this year! You can check out the cover below:

It’s gorgeous, no doubt, but I have to say, despite my loyalty to Jem, that I prefer the cover for Clockwork Angel. I’m not really feeling seeing Jem’s face straight on since I loved the mysteriousness of the cover for the first book so much:

Which cover do you all prefer?

Despite any little nitpicking on my part, my main train of thought still remains, CAN I HAVE THE BOOK NOW?! So, yeah, ultimately, who cares about the cover, right? BRING ON THE BOOK. Be sure to check out the giveaway Mundie Moms has going on here!

I actually haven’t bought much since my last IMM last month. Even though it’s obviously giving me money, work has kept me super busy so I’ve had a lot less time to read. Thus, I still have plenty of books already that I need to get around to. Here are the recent additions to my personal library, though:

ARCs:
Divergent by Veronica Roth – Thanks again to my buddy Lis for sending me this one. You can check out my review here. I can’t wait to get my final copy on Tuesday! :D

Purchased:
The Goddess Test by Aimée Carter – My final copy of the book! You can check out my review for this one here.
Where She Went by Gayle Forman – My review is on its way, but I will say the following: GAH, GAYLE FORMAN, YOU GENIUS.
City of Fallen Angels by Cassandra Clare – My review for this one is right here.

Warm Bodies by Isaac Marion – I’ve been waiting for this one since I came across the short story last year and, yay, it’s finally here. Reading it right now.
Unwind by Neal Shusterman – This was amazing. Check out my review here.
A Game of Thrones (A Song of Ice and Fire) by George R.R. Martin – I’m already hooked on the show, heh, so I thought I would read the book. It’ll be interesting to see how this turns out because it’s fairly outside of my comfort zone. So far so good, though!

From Netgalley:

Imaginary Girls by Nova Ren Suma
The Girl in the Steel Corset by Kady Cross

Review:
Meh. Though I absolutely fell in love with The Mortal Instruments, I was one of the fans that didn’t hoot and cheer when I found out that the series would be extended with three more books. I felt that the story had wrapped up well enough and, more importantly, that the characters had gone through enough. Still, it would be impossible to not pick this up — especially not with the rumblings of a cliffhanger. I had to know what happened!

Although I did enjoy him a lot more in my re-reads of the first three books, Simon is probably the character I least care about in the series. Needless to say, I wasn’t too thrilled to have him be a central focus in this one. Though his relationship with his mom could have been an interesting one to explore, we obviously can’t have too much parental involvement in YA. Instead, we get to deal with his little love triangle to which I say: who cares? I did enjoy his scenes with Jace, though. It was surprising to see these two interact as much as they did and, as could be expected, they made me laugh.

Will Clary and Jace ever be at peace?! Reason #1 I wasn’t excited about this book happening: Clary and Jace getting dragged through more angst. These two have hardly had time to enjoy one another’s company without something messing things up for them. I get it, they’re in love, but if I were one of them I’d be so over this relationship already. Sigh. Of course, I do still love them.

I wish there had been more of the other characters, Alec and Magnus in particular, since they were a highlight. Also, I loved the Will Herondale mentions! I can’t wait to see further connections between the two generations. As for the cliffhanger, I’ll look forward to the drama it will bring in the next two books. However, and without giving anything away, I wasn’t too surprised by it; I actually thought it had already happened earlier in the book and that the cliffhanger would be the reveal. Yay for vagueness!

City of Fallen Angels did pick up steam as it went along, but I still hold firm that this installment of the series was unnecessary. I do think the next two books will hold my interest – especially with that cliffhanger – but I can’t say I’ll be eagerly counting down the days for their release. Instead, I’ll be saving my countdowns for Cassandra’s other series, The Infernal Devices. Is it time for Clockwork Prince yet?
