Top Ten Tuesday: Summer TBR List

Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by The Broke and the Bookish and features a new top ten list each week.

Top Ten Books At The Top Of My Summer TBR List

Never Fade by Alexandra Bracken: Technically cheating with this one, since I already read it, but I’m counting it as a summer read, okay? This was one of the BEA books I had to have and it was so, so amazing. MY TEARS BECAME A SEA BECAUSE OF THIS BOOK.

Crown of Midnight by Sarah J. Maas: Another kind of cheat, since I’m in the middle of reading it now, and I’ll probably be done with it by the time this post goes live, but… THIS BOOK AND THESE CHARACTERS. Sarah J. Maas has so many amazing elements in her world that I sometimes want to explode from the greatness.

Gameboard of the Gods by Richelle Mead: After devouring her Dark Swan series, I am eager to find out what else Richelle Mead has up her sleeve in her adult books. She has yet to disappoint me with anything she’s written.

Vortex by S.J. Kincaid Humor, charming characters, and action, what’s not to want? Insignia was an amazing read for me last year and I’m very excited that my return to the Pentagonal Spire with these characters is less than a month away.

Days of Blood & Starlight by Laini Taylor: Yeeeeeeeaaaaah, I don’t know why I haven’t read this yet, either. I’m judging myself, don’t worry. This will be fixed immediately.

The Bitter Kindgom by Rae Carson: My LIFE will be a bitter kingdom when this series comes to an end, but this book is a top priority as it is one of my absolute favorite series.

These Broken Stars by Amie Kaufman and Meagan Spooner: I was looking forward to this one before BEA, but holding the pretty book in my hands increased my excitement. Yay for spaceliners and being stranded on an unknown planet!

Code Name Verity by Elizabeth Wein: I featured this in a WoW post prior to its release, then got my hands on a galley, saw all the glowing praise…AND I STILL HAVEN’T READ IT. So, yeah, it must be done, especially since I have the companion waiting for me now, too.

More Than This by Patrick Ness: This won’t be released until later this summer, but I’m already very anxious for it. I’ll dread every moment and end up sobbing my eyes out (it’s Patrick Ness, after all), but I’ll love every second of it.

The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan: Late to the party, I know, but after hearing Rick Riordan speak at the BEA Children’s Author Breakfast I was all, “Okay, I need to read his books.” My brother and friends love the Percy Jackson series so clearly I am missing out, right?

What are you reading this summer? Am I missing something from my list? Should I bump anything up to the very top?

Top Ten Tuesday: Favorite Romances

Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by The Broke and the Bookish and features a new top ten list each week.

Top Ten Nine Favorite Romances

It was very difficult not to get out of control with this week’s topic so I am limiting myself to mostly recent(ish) book couples. Bear with me and my ramblings ahead.

Sydney + Adrian

(Bloodlines by Richelle Mead) – Alright, so yeah, I was super attached to the idea of Adrian and Rose in the Vampire Academy books, but Sydney and Adrian are something else altogether. I’ve loved their growing friendship and The Golden Lily had me puking rainbows (and then crying). I’m so, so excited to get to The Indigo Spell!

Puck + Sean
(The Scorpio Races by Maggie Stiefvater) – Ugh, this romance was so quiet and sweet that I could CRY. Maggie Stiefvater definitely brought the swoon with these two and more people should love them!!

Mary + James
(The Agency series by Y.S. Lee) – CHEMISTRY LIKE WHOA. Seriously, their banter is the best of the best and the kissing isn’t bad either (ALSO THE BEST).

Lena + Julian
(Delirium series by Lauren Oliver) – Alex, wah wah wah. NO. I liked him in the first book, but then Julian came along and angels sang. His relationship with Lena was so well developed. I WANT TO KNOW. I WANT TO KNOW WITH YOU.

Ian + Wanderer

(The Host by Stephenie Meyer) – They were so unexpected and yet so damn great. Their friendship evolved into such a lovely relationship. I’m curious to see how their romance will play out on screen!

Elisa + Hector
(Fire and Thorns series by Rae Carson) – So much mutual respect and admiration between these two! Rae Carson has truly allowed their relationship to feel so natural and I’m so anxious to find out what happens in book three.

Clara + Christian & Clara + Tucker
(Unearthly series by Cynthia Hand) – No, you are not seeing things, I do have both Tucker AND Christian up there. This never happens: I always have THE guy I’m rooting for and yet…I love them both and I’ve had strong feelings about this series since I read the last book. AHHHHH.

Anna + St. Clair
(Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins) – Um, there’s not much to say with these two except for the fact that they are the most delightful EVER. Seriously, their story never fails to bring the warm fuzzies. It doesn’t get any better than this, folks.

Yes, nine because I won’t can’t make up my mind about the last one. Who makes up your list? Hope you all get lots of sweets for Valentine’s Day!

Top Ten Tuesday: Bookish Goals for 2013

Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by The Broke and the Bookish and features a new top ten list each week.

Top Ten Bookish Goals for 2013

Alright, I already listed a few goals here, but I thought I would expand my list somewhat. In no particular order:

Write my reviews right after I finish the book.
I listed this one in the post I linked above, but it needs repeating! I actually did this with a few books I read already and it was soooo much easier to put my words down. I need to stick with it.

Organize my Goodreads shelves.
I started doing this the other day, but then I was like “Nah” and decided to go play Sims 3 instead. I really do want to shelve everything under genre and such, though.

Cut down on my book buying.
I’m currently looking for a new job, so perhaps I’ll be able to go crazy again when everything gets back to “normal,” but I need to take a step back and not go crazy buying books that only sit around unread. Mission: only buy when I know I’m going to read the book immediately or when I go to an author’s signing.

Use the library more!
This point will go nicely with the one above because it should stop me from impulse buying. LAPL has a great catalog — online too so I can use my new Kindle Fire — and there’s no reason I shouldn’t get books from there even if i have to *gasp* wait for them.

Read my unread books instead of ignoring them for the news releases.
Dude, I still have ARCs sitting around from BEA and ALA, but beyond that I have others that have been waiting for me for ages. New releases are fun and exciting, but I really need to challenge myself to read the old ones and clear those piles down.

Find new blogs to visit and subscribe to.
I wasn’t able to do as much visiting around to new blogs in 2012, so I definitely want to get to know new bloggers and add new subscriptions to my Google Reader.

Read Justin Cronin’s The Twelve and continue with George R.R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire series.
Yes, these deserve their own goal because they are INTIMIDATING. They are so long!!! But I’ve been waiting for The Twelve for about two years now and I know Lindsey wants to discuss A Storm of Swords so I need to get to them ASAP.

Expand the blog.
This is my main one, and I’m still not sure how I’ll accomplish this exactly, but I want to have original posts and features. We’ll see what happens.

What are your goals for this year?

Top Ten Tuesday: Books That I’d Play Hooky With

Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by The Broke and the Bookish and features a new top ten list each week. This week is a rewind and I am doing…

Top Ten Books That I’d Play Hooky With

I have been so busy with work that I’ve seriously fallen behind with reading (and blogging – hi, I miss you all!), so here are the books I really wish I could take the day off to read.

I really can’t believe I haven’t read these yet…

The Lost Girl by Sangu Mandanna
Tiger Lily by Jodi Lynn Anderson
Ten by Gretchen McNeil

I was eagerly looking forward to these books, sure that I would read them immediately, love them, etc. I acquired them and…they’ve sat around. Instead of actually giving them a go, I either fall asleep (WORK SUCKS) or pick up something else and it’s like WHYYYYYYYYY. I want to love these books and hopefully I will when I have more time available.

I need more time to commit to these…

Code Name Verity by Elizabeth Wein
The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss
A Storm of Swords by George R.R. Martin

Sadly work has kept me so busy that I’ve actually gone entire weeks without reading, so anything that I’ve actually been able to pick up have been pretty quick reads. Which I know these are not. Either emotionally or page wise (or BOTH), I know I don’t have the time to fully immerse myself in these books so they will have to wait a while longer though I REALLY want to read them.

Upcoming books I would take time off for…

Boundless by Cynthia Hand
The Indigo Spell by Richelle Mead
Clockwork Princess by Cassandra Clare

I’m usually very careful with my PTO, but I would TOTALLY use some to spend the day with these books without interruption.

Should I call out sick for any of these books? Link me to your TTT and I will check it out!

Top Ten Tuesday: Books On My Summer TBR List

Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by The Broke and the Bookish and features a new top ten list each week.

Top Ten Books On My Summer TBR List

I’m not one to really schedule what I read, simply because my moods are so fickle, but here are ten books I hope to get to this summer!

I Hunt Killers by Barry Lyga Partials by Dan Wells Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo Skylark by Meagan Spooner

I Hunt Killers by Barry Lyga – This is highly recommended by Jen and I became even more interested in this book after hearing Barry Lyga at the Teen Author Carnival.

Partials by Dan Wells – This has been sitting in my pile since its release so it’s TIME to get to it!

Seraphina by Rachel Hartman – Fantasy! Dragons! Awesomeness ahead!

Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo – I don’t think I’ve read a single negative review for this book.

Skylark by Meagan Spooner – The BEA Buzz panel made me super interested in this one!

Shine by Jeri Smith-Ready Code Name Verity by Elizabeth Wein Ten by Gretchen McNeil A Storm of Swords by George R.R. Martin This Is Not A Test by Courtney Summers

Shine by Jeri Smith-Ready – I am seriously confused as to why I haven’t finished off this series — I love it so it’s time to see how it concludes.

Code Name Verity by Elizabeth Wein – Everyone needs a good cry during summer, right? This is a title I’ve been looking forward to, but I feel like I need to hide away from the world to read it. Hopefully soon!

Ten by Gretchen McNeil – I don’t know about you, but I think a story revolving around a killer on an island sounds like a perfect summer read.

A Storm of Swords by George R.R. Martin – I’ve been on a break from this book for MONTHS and I need to finish it to discuss things with Lindsey.

This Is Not A Test by Courtney Summers – This is finally out (TODAY!) so I am really eager to read this twist on zombies in a more contemporary setting. Should be good!

What’s on your summer TBR? Should I make any of these books an immediate priority?
