Bookish Thoughts & Reviews

Except not really a recap because I stupidly didn’t take many photos. So, I’m just sticking to the bookish/author stuff here…

I’m going to be super quiet this weekend as I’m heading to San Diego for Comic-Con in just a few hours. This will be my sixth year going and there’s a ton of stuff I’m looking forward to: swag, GAME OF THRONES (!!!), etc. However, I have to say that bookish stuff is right up top for me, too, with the Veronica Roth signing and the “What’s Hot in Young Adult Fiction” panel with Stephanie Perkins, Kiersten White, Tahereh Mafi, Laini Taylor, Andrea Creamer, and Amanda Hocking. SO, SO STOKED.
I should be back on Sunday evening or Monday, hopefully with some cool pics, videos and things that I picked up. I will probably also tweet random crap on twitter if you want to check that out, haha.
Have a great weekend!

OFF TO VEGAS! I’ll be spending the weekend with some of my favorite online friends so I won’t be around again until Monday evening. I’ve never been to Las Vegas so I’m thinking, with these awesome buddies of mine, that it will be a great time.
The real purpose of this post, though, is to give the final reminder for my Blood Red Road giveaway. Check it out, spread the word, etc:

I’ll be checking my e-mail when I can, but I’ll resume posting and commenting on Tuesday when I’ll also announce the winner. Have a great weekend, everyone!

If you follow me on twitter, you might know that it was discovered that my dog had cancer earlier this week. On Tuesday she underwent surgery to remove the tumor and, thankfully, she’s recovering quite well. However, it has been taking quite a bit of time and effort to keep an eye on her and, combined with work, you have an exhausted me. I haven’t had much time to read because I simply pass out every night. SADNESS.
I plan to catch up with the reviews I’m behind on, and hopefully I’ll be able to get those up during the weekend, but regular posting and commenting probably won’t resume until after next week or so. Thank you all so much for sticking around and I hope to be caught up with everything ASAP!
This was the first birthday in recent memory that I absolutely did not look forward to. It’s ridiculous, but turning 23 finally made me feel like I was getting old. I know I’m still young and (hopefully) have long ways to go and yet…it’s a feeling I can’t shake. One of the highlights of the birthday, however, was finally getting my very own Kindle (pictured on the right)! I had been wanting an eReader for some time now, especially after falling in love with my brothers iPad that I stole once in a while, but every time I was about to get one, I backed out; there were bills to be paid, I needed new clothes, someone needed to borrow money…the excuses were endless. Lucky for me, my dad decided to gift one to me! Knowing how particular I can be, he let me decide which eReader I would get.
Now, as you can probably imagine, I’ve spent a lot of time in the past weighing the pros and cons of the various models out there. Ultimately it came down to the Kindle and the Nook. Many of my friends have a Nook, making their “LendMe” capability very tempting, I liked the design, especially the color touchscreen (I like pretty things!), and overall I thought it was a very solid choice. However, I obviously decided on the Kindle. While I’m not a big Barnes & Noble shopper, Amazon is a site I visit every day and buy from at least three times a month. I’ve had very few customer service issues with them and any that I did have were fixed immediately, so I knew I would be in good hands. Though I did like the touchscreen on the Nook, I’m still partial to standard navigation, making the Kindle’s keyboard and buttons very appealing. The battery life was also great because, what can I say, I’m really lazy when it comes to charging things! Because of these things, and others, the Kindle was the winner!
Specific technical stuff aside, I think I would have been happy with any eReader model. I have no more shelf space, my room can’t handle any more shelf space, and I simply needed a way to make my reading easier.
I’ve uploaded a few books already, but there’s a few hard copies of books that I need to get through before I can really play — can’t wait!
If you have an eReader, which do you have and what made you decide on it? If you don’t have one, are you considering one for the future and which is your favorite?
