Thursday’s This and That #1

Hi!

So I’ve decided that on Thursdays I’m going to be doing some sort of This and That type of post where I can babble about movies, TV shows, music, etc (and bookish stuff too!). I still want to create original content on the blog, but I haven’t gotten there yet so I hope I can use this to stop the repetitive REVIEW MEME REVIEW MEME cycle around here. ANYWAY, ONWARDS. Here’s the stuff I’ve been obsessing over and such.

This Book: Boundless by Cynthia Hand

Ha, yes, I’m starting this off with a book related thing but HELP, I’M SO EXCITED THAT THIS BOOK COMES OUT NEXT WEEK!!! I’m also really nervous because I’m so unsure of where everything is headed. I just read Wendy Darling’s review the other day and I pretty much flailed. I will be so sad that the series is over, but until I turn that last page…I’m so looking forward to reading every word. Cynthia Hand is also touring around here in March so I’m looking forward to hopefully attending that event! If you haven’t already, please read these books!

That Game: Sims 3

Yep, that’s my Sim getting beamed up by a UFO! I used to play Sims a few years back, but I never got too into it. For some reason unknown I ended up getting Sims 3 and, well, the amount of time I’ve spent playing is ridiculous. I’m sure this will pass soon enough, but I’m definitely enjoying causing drama around my little Sims town. (Though I’m getting pretty annoyed by how often my Sims get visited by aliens now, haha.) If anyone else plays and has recs for expansion packs, custom content, etc, let me know.

This Movie: Les Miserables

Though I’ve heard about Les Miserables over time, I’ve mostly known about it through the fangirling of Lindsey and Linda. The excitement about the movie made me curious so I watched it last week and, wooooow, I was totally unprepared for the tears silently streaming down my face by the end of it. I’ve heard that there are better performances of it, but as someone who hasn’t watched any of them, I really enjoyed this adaptation.

That Show: Once Upon a Time

I fail at television. No joke, I always end up dropping shows because I simply don’t have the motivation to keep up. Why did I end up watching Once Upon a Time? Well, I was bored and it was streaming on Netflix. I’m already an episode behind, so I’m unsure of how much longer I’ll keep watching, but I’ve really enjoyed the episodes so far. It’s a little silly, but it’s also fun and I’m always interested to see how they’ll handle the interpretations of different fairytale characters.

Let me know if there’s anything you think I might enjoy!

  1. I have to buy the Sims again. It is necessary.

    Also <3 <3 <3 Once Upon a Time.

  2. Sims 3 man. I can’t even keep count of how many hours I’ve wasted on building houses and family’s.

  3. I can’t believe that I haven’t actually seen Les Mis yet!!! I must change this soon! Also… I’m afraid to start playing the sims!

  4. Would you believe I still haven’t caught up on Once Upon a Time? It’s such a great idea for a show, and I really need to find some time to get all caught up on what’s going on with all the characters.

Also, Sims 3 looks totally awesome. Especially the UFO part.

  5. I have the first two books of the unearthly series, and I’m ashamed to admit I have yet to read them. I think I will get right on that after finishing Code Name Verity. I’ve been hearing such good things about the Unearthly series, and I love when I can just finish the series because all the books are already out. I hate waiting!

As for Sims, those games are so addictive. I’ve played pretty much all of the expansion packs for Sims 1 and 2, but unfortunately, all of those games are for a PC and we have all Macs now in my house. I’m considering buying Sims 3. It looks like so much fun, but I know I’ll be like a zombie, staring at the computer screen. Not eating. Not sleeping. Just playing Sims. I’m sorry your sims keep getting abducted. That’s sad. :(

  6. I’m kind of DREADING Boundless just because that last book was so sad… Hopefully the ending to the series won’t be as sad! TUCKER!!!! (And Christian)

The Sim – you should post more screencaps of your creations. I’ve been enjoying all of the shenanigans I’ve seen so far, lmao. Seriously, that one thing with the dude sleeping in his wife’s friends bed was hilarious.

LES MIS, awww I’m so happy you saw it and enjoyed it! It’s my all-time favourite :’) EPONINE. My life story.

ahhhh, I’m currently watching this series. And I totally agree with you – it can be silly and ridiculous at times, but it’s cool seeing the fairy tale adaptations. I’m only half way through season 1 (the next episode I have is the Alice in Wonderland one…) and Idk if I’ll watch it on the ~regular when I catch up, but it’s funtimes. It’s good timing that I started watching it as you’ve finished it because now we can discuss it xD

  7. I absolutely loved Les Miserables! It was so amazing. I saw the play a while back and the movie definitely did it justice. I never did read the book though. I really enjoyed the music in the movie.

I’m a fan of Once Upon a Time as well, though I’m about 3 episodes behind… I’ve been too caught up with Downton Abbey and Dance Moms.
