Top Ten Tuesday: Bookish Goals for 2013

Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by The Broke and the Bookish and features a new top ten list each week.

Top Ten Bookish Goals for 2013

Alright, I already listed a few goals here, but I thought I would expand my list somewhat. In no particular order:

Write my reviews right after I finish the book.
I listed this one in the post I linked above, but it needs repeating! I actually did this with a few books I read already and it was soooo much easier to put my words down. I need to stick with it.

Organize my Goodreads shelves.
I started doing this the other day, but then I was like “Nah” and decided to go play Sims 3 instead. I really do want to shelve everything under genre and such, though.

Cut down on my book buying.
I’m currently looking for a new job, so perhaps I’ll be able to go crazy again when everything gets back to “normal,” but I need to take a step back and not go crazy buying books that only sit around unread. Mission: only buy when I know I’m going to read the book immediately or when I go to an author’s signing.

Use the library more!
This point will go nicely with the one above because it should stop me from impulse buying. LAPL has a great catalog — online too so I can use my new Kindle Fire — and there’s no reason I shouldn’t get books from there even if i have to *gasp* wait for them.

Read my unread books instead of ignoring them for the news releases.
Dude, I still have ARCs sitting around from BEA and ALA, but beyond that I have others that have been waiting for me for ages. New releases are fun and exciting, but I really need to challenge myself to read the old ones and clear those piles down.

Find new blogs to visit and subscribe to.
I wasn’t able to do as much visiting around to new blogs in 2012, so I definitely want to get to know new bloggers and add new subscriptions to my Google Reader.

Read Justin Cronin’s The Twelve and continue with George R.R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire series.
Yes, these deserve their own goal because they are INTIMIDATING. They are so long!!! But I’ve been waiting for The Twelve for about two years now and I know Lindsey wants to discuss A Storm of Swords so I need to get to them ASAP.

Expand the blog.
This is my main one, and I’m still not sure how I’ll accomplish this exactly, but I want to have original posts and features. We’ll see what happens.

What are your goals for this year?

  1. Nice list! I have some similar ones, but while you need to use the library, I need to cut back! I keep getting more and more, and then I never get to read the books I own. But it’s so hard not to request book after book! Thanks for sharing!

  2. So many of these goals are my goals. And then time takes over and I need a nap.

  3. We share many of the same goals! I hope you accomplish all of yours!

  4. Great goals, Steph! I’d really like to expand my blog too, with discussions and whatnot. Writing reviews right after I finish a book is something I also really need to get into the habit of doing! All stuff I’d like to aim for once I open my new blog, which I hope you’ll come visit! :)

  5. We basically have all of the same goals! The library is right down the street from me, I really have no idea why I don’t go more often.

Good luck with all of your goals!

  6. “Write my reviews right after I finish the book.” Oh, Steph, good luck! I do this, but only because I HAVE to because it’s what works for me. I force myself to write a review before starting the next book or I gorget everything >__<

“Read my unread books instead of ignoring them for the news releases.”

I need to do this, too >__<
So much harder than it sounds, huh? :S

  7. I think you picked some great goals for this year! I’m definitely trying to cut down on my book buying, mostly because I’m determined to finish the books I already own first. There’s a lot of good titles on my shelves that I haven’t gotten to because I keep buying shiny new books – hopefully, I remedy that this year!

  8. The LAPL is so awesome!! Luckily, even though I moved to somewhere more rural, we have a really great library system. :) Good luck on your job search! I can’t wait to meet you at BEA this summer!

  9. You’ve got very similar bookish goals to me, mine can be found here.

    All the best, GOOD LUCK!

  10. Didn’t make a TTT list, but my biggest one is def wanting to get to know more bloggers. I kind of failed at some point last year.
