Top Ten Tuesday: Books That I’d Play Hooky With

Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by The Broke and the Bookish and features a new top ten list each week. This week is a rewind and I am doing…

Top Ten Books That I’d Play Hooky With

I have been so busy with work that I’ve seriously fallen behind with reading (and blogging – hi, I miss you all!), so here are the books I really wish I could take the day off to read.

I really can’t believe I haven’t read these yet…

The Lost Girl by Sangu Mandanna
Tiger Lily by Jodi Lynn Anderson
Ten by Gretchen McNeil

I was eagerly looking forward to these books, sure that I would read them immediately, love them, etc. I acquired them and…they’ve sat around. Instead of actually giving them a go, I either fall asleep (WORK SUCKS) or pick up something else and it’s like WHYYYYYYYYY. I want to love these books and hopefully I will when I have more time available.

I need more time to commit to these…

Code Name Verity by Elizabeth Wein
The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss
A Storm of Swords by George R.R. Martin

Sadly work has kept me so busy that I’ve actually gone entire weeks without reading, so anything that I’ve actually been able to pick up have been pretty quick reads. Which I know these are not. Either emotionally or page wise (or BOTH), I know I don’t have the time to fully immerse myself in these books so they will have to wait a while longer though I REALLY want to read them.

Upcoming books I would take time off for…

Boundless by Cynthia Hand
The Indigo Spell by Richelle Mead
Clockwork Princess by Cassandra Clare

I’m usually very careful with my PTO, but I would TOTALLY use some to spend the day with these books without interruption.

Should I call out sick for any of these books? Link me to your TTT and I will check it out!

  1. Hi. I’ve missed you. Clearly I just need to stalk you on twitter better. I mean, what?

  2. Awesome list! I would totally call in sick for Clockwork Princess!!! Except, I probably won’t since I’ll be student teaching at that point. :( Rest assured the following weekend will be totally devoid of plans! I hope you get more time to read soon!

Becky & I chose our favorite covers this week, so check it out if you like! http://cardiganscoffeeandbookmarks.blogspot.com/2012/10/top-ten-favorite-covers.html

  3. I cannot wait for indigo spell and clockwork princess either! so so excited

    here’s my my TTT (villains)

  4. The Name of the Wind and A Storm of Swords are fantastic, I hope you get around to them soon enough! Ten seems to be cropping up everywhere lately, I think I ought to check it out xD

Here’s my Top Ten for this week =)

  5. Yes yes yes, calling in sick is definitely warranted for Boundless, Indigo Spell and Clockwork Princess. Can’t wait! The Lost Girl is another one that I’ve heard great things about. It’s hard to find the time to read all the books we want to read!
    Great list, Steph!

  6. Totally agree about the first 3 books! I want to read them SO BAD, but I just cannot find the time. Same with Code Name Verity. I know I’m going to need ~time for that one.

As for those last three, don’t even ask me which one I would pick first if given the opportunity to read any of them! (OH MY GOSH, THEY ARE ALL GOING TO BE DEPRESSING, I JUST KNOW IT)

Also yes, A Storm of Swords and KING RICKON are waiting for you.

  7. Seriously, I would really, truly take time off for Days of Blood and Starlight. I want this book so badly it HURTS.

  8. A Storm of Swords is so worth playing hooky for! I also want to read Code Name Verity and The Lost Girl.

  9. I haven’t read any of these either! I’m very keen to read Tiger Lily, and I haven’t even started on The Infernal Devices series…

  10. Ten is a book on my list! I really want to read it. It looks great and the premise sounds awesome. :)

    J’adore Happy Endings

  11. I can’t wait for Clockwork Princess!

I read Tiger Lily, and I really enjoyed it. It was a bit slow at first but then picks up. :)

  12. Do yourself a favor and read Tiger Lily as fast as possible. In my top 3 favorite reads this year. It’s SO good. A heartbreaking story with wonderful characters. I totally loved it.

I have a copy from Lost girl on the shelves and I’m excited to get my hands on Ten. I really need to get started in George Martin’s series. Awesome list! :)

  13. I’m’ pretty much there with you. I’m so behind in reading!

  14. The last three all apply to me! I CANNOT WAIT FOR BOUNDLESS OR THE INDIGO SPELL.

GURL, Y U NO READ TIGER LILY. Read it and be emotionally ruined forever. You know you want to!

  15. Ten is really good- hopefully you’ll get the chance to read it soon! (I know how you feel. My schedule has gotten so busy that I’ve fallen asleep with books in my hands before.) Clockwork Princess is definitely worth a day off, as well!

  16. YES! Yes, I so feel you on this list. Life should revolve around reading, not silly stuff like work and stuff. And you’re very wise to wait to dedicate time to CNV. It’ll eviscerate you. In a good way, of course.

  17. I’m dying to get my hands on TEN and TIGER LILY… but I’ve sorta gone a bit mad with my book-buying at the moment and I reckon I *ought* to tone it down a bit. *sighs deeply* Seriously tempted! ;)

  18. OMG I totally agree with taking time off for reading all of those upcoming books. Sadly, I will only be able to read one possibly when it comes out since I’ll be on holidays then but otherwise I’ll have to read the rest during my breaks from school.
