Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead (Vampire Academy #1)
Add it on Goodreads
St. Vladimir’s Academy isn’t just any boarding school—it’s a hidden place where vampires are educated in the ways of magic and half-human teens train to protect them. Rose Hathaway is a Dhampir, a bodyguard for her best friend Lissa, a Moroi Vampire Princess. They’ve been on the run, but now they’re being dragged back to St. Vladimir’s—the very place where they’re most in danger…
Rose and Lissa become enmeshed in forbidden romance, the Academy’s ruthless social scene, and unspeakable nighttime rituals. But they must be careful lest the Strigoi—the world’s fiercest and most dangerous vampires—make Lissa one of them forever.
Considering how many books I’ve read based on friend and other blogger recommendations, there were many to choose from, but I’m going for Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead this week! This was recommended by my friend Melanie (hi Mel!) back in 2009 and I was super hesitant to do vampires again after Twilight. Plus, with THAT as its series name and THAT cover? Meh, I expected the worst! Forward to now and it’s definitely one of my favorite series AND I’m so into the spinoff, Bloodlines, too. Vampire Academy, you are awesome.

This series is definitely one of the most awesome series out there. I’m totally in love with it as well as with the Bloodlines series. ♥
I don’t love Rose, but I love Vampire Academy. Mmmm… Adrian.
I have yet to read this series, and it’s pretty much for the same reason – vampires are starting to wear me down, haha. Maybe someday!
I loved this series! Great recommendation.
I´m Team Adrian.
Here is My Recommend A..
I’ve heard good things about the series recently. I have to agree with you that I’m not inclined to read it based on the title and cover and ugh more vampires. But everyone is saying such good things about it – I think I will have to look into it!
Oh man, good times. This cover is really terrible. And the title. And the vampire overload. It’s a shame because it really is an interesting story. Oh well, you caved, you read, and you probably love it more than I do now rofl.
I absolutely loved this book! I’ve only read the first one, but I’ve heard that they actually get better as they go on. I haven’t had that happen in a series yet! :)
VAMPIRE ACADEMY!!! <3 Hey, we read it at the same time! Well, sorta. In the same year, anyway :P I am SUCH a fangirl of this series. Rose is one of my fave ever heroines. And ADRIAN. OH LORD, ADRIAN IVASHKOV. I've always been a shipper of Rose/Dimka, they are meant to be, but it was always Adrian who captured my heart. Even MORE so in The Golden Lily *dies*
Oh you make me want to read VA so, so bad!
