Page to Screen: The Help by Kathryn Stockett

The film adaptation of Kathryn Stockett’s The Help is out in theaters today! I attended an advance screening back in June and I was amazed by how faithful the film was to the source material. I know changes are to be expected when a book is translated to the big screen, but what can I say… I’m very, very picky. There were some changes in this case, but nothing too major (as far as I can recall) and the film moved me to tears — just as the book did.

The novel was one of my absolute favorite reads from last year and I cannot praise it enough. It had all the perfect ingredients of a touching, funny, and moving read. If you haven’t had the chance to pick it up yet please do so! And then definitely give the movie a chance, too.

  2. I’m gonna read this one…soon. I rarely go to the theater so I usually get ready for the dvd release by reading the book LOL :)

  3. Hearing you say that it was one of your favourite reads from last year really makes me want to read the book first before seeing the movie (originally, I was just thinking about watching it on dvd and skipping the book). Thanks for the rec!
